cause it's what's on the inside that really matters
Hi everyone! As we are well into this weird era of isolation, I thought it would be helpful to show what I am doing to keep my self in check mentally and physically. Continue reading to see my line up of people, accounts, products, and more that I have been relying on during my "self quarantine"
As the world has shifted to an unpredictable time, it may seem easy to fall out of your usual routine. This is what leads to us feeling out of wack. Instead, adjust your routine and closely follow it.
WRITE DOWN GOALS FOR THE DAY
Writing SPECIFIC goals for your day will truly keep you motivated to follow a schedule. You could also write down meal plan or a simple checklist of things you need to do like: showering, getting dressed, morning coffee, or finishing a reading for a course. Creating goals or a schedule will truly keep your grounded in quarantine.
Here are some tips on creating a schedule:
get up at the same time, go to bed at a good hour
don't be too ambitious
stick to usual work and study times
eat at certain times (as you are used to)
include a fun activity
make time for family/ friends
Food! Its something we all love and is a constant in our lives. The biggest thing I have to say about your relationship with food right now is if you don't eat well, your NOT going to be at your best or feel your best. Food is the base of our existence so you must get it right. Enforcing good habits now will make you feel so strong and good coming out of this period.
I get being at home all day is tempting, and there's definitely no issue with treating yourself. Its so easy to eat what we want when we want and that's completely okay, just make sure to keep it CLEAN.
Of course, eating clean does not mean you have to go vegan or gluten-free. It just means keeping a healthy balance between what you're putting in your body. Make food fun by checking out new recipes. I recommend looking at our past blog post 10 Healthy Easy Recipes to Try in Quarantine. Another great place to look is on Instagram.
Here are some healthy eating accounts I recommend:
@minimalistbaker - amazing, inventive recipes that are pretty easy to create
@bestofvegan - for those who want to explore the realm of veganism
@platd.co - plant based sustainable recipes, good for you and the planet
If you're really dedicated to transforming your diet, you can try a detox. It can be anywhere from 3 days to 21 days. If you're really motivated, I really recommend Kenzie Burkes 21 Day Reset.
Remember, the relationship you have with food reflects the relationship you have with yourself!
No matter what type of flow or movement you prefer, it is SO important to be moving our bodies right now.
I usually do 10- 20 minutes workouts periodically throughout the day to keep the blood pumping (like a short walk/run or attending a hot pilates live), but doing an hour workout once a day is just as good. Either way, saving a small portion of your day for a sweat sesh will do wonders for both your mind and body.
Here are a few accounts/workouts I've checked out and recommend:
@yogawithhanan - super relaxing live yoga classes 3x a week
@womenshealthmag - daily 15-30 min live classes that will leave your sweating!
Shannon Nadj - has amazing workouts on YT AND does daily lives
@hotpilates - another account doing daily lives for pilate lovers

What better thing to do in quarantine than make time for self care? Its crucial for physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. First things first:
Make time to UNWIND
Whether it's yoga, reading a book, journaling, cooking, or painting, do something that gives you fulfillment and that you truly find relaxing. Making the time to do something with your hands can be a HUGE stress reliever and is great for mental health.
TAKE A BREAK FROM THE NEWS
I recommend disconnecting from any kind of social media or news outlet (think of it like a detox for your mind) It will prevent you from getting overwhelmed. Replace the time you take going on your phone with a hobby or activity. It truly makes time pass by FASTER and causes you to feel PRODUCTIVE.
Here are some of my quarantine self care essentials:
moleskin journal - writing down your thoughts of the day is a great way to unwind, I recommend trying @margotlee 's journal entry of the day series on TikTok
guasha and face oil - helps with releasing face tension and allows for absorption
porcelain essential oil defuser - an investment, but a literal never ending candle
summer fridays jet lag mask - amazing for stressed out skin
This is a really stressful time for everyone, especially fro those who suffer with anxiety and other mental health issues. Here are a few tips to keep your mind healthy in isolation:
READING
Im personally a huge reader. I love being able to travel into a whole other world when cozying up with a good book. Of course reading isn't for everyone. If your not such a fan of reading, I strongly recommend PODCASTS. My personal favorite is Thick and Thin by Katy Bellotte where she talks about love and life in New York City.
WRITING
I mentioned this briefly already, but writing can truly make a huge difference in your mental health. If your feeling all bottled up inside, try JOURNALING. I know, it sounds like such a cheesy cliche teenage activity, but pouring out your feelings is such a healthy way of relieving anxiety and stress. There are so many things to journal about and ways to do it. You can read your horoscope and write about it, or you can talk about future aspirations. There are really no limits.
STAYING SOCIALLY ENGAGED
Humans are social creature, so social distancing does not mean self isolation. Reaching out to your friends or someone you love can truly make a huge different in how you feel. Don't let not being able to get in groups stop you from building social relationships. FaceTime someone once a day. Host a Zoom game night with your friend group. In a time where gathering is not an option, connecting with technology is a great substitute.
STILL HAVING TROUBLE?
It's no secret that this is a hard time for ALOT of people. If you are feeling down or not like yourself it is VALID. Just know that it will pass.
Overall, do not think of this article as one whole to do list. You do not need to do everything listed here in order to detox your mind and body. Focus only on a few things and if you choose to incorporate more, great! I hope you can find bits and pieces of takeaways from this article.
