Quarantine Fashion & Beauty Essentials

A basic guide on how to look good and feel good in isolation.

There are two types of people in isolation. One, the people who slowly let go of their skin and beauty routine and bum it out in a sweatshirt and sweatpants every day. On the other hand, there is the other group of people: the ones who keep up with their beauty routine and get dressed up every day even though they aren't going out. What if we told you that you can be in the mix between those two groups? We came up with five clothing essentials, specifically loungewear, and five beauty essentials in order for you to feel and look comfy yet fabulous during isolation.

Loungewear Essentials

1. Biker Shorts

These cheetah print biker shorts from Princess Polly are to die for! Biker shorts are slowly making a comeback into the fashion industry. Mainstream celebrities like Bella Hadid, the Kardashian clan, and Jasmine Sanders have been seen out and about wearing this infamous clothing piece. In earlier years, Princess Diana, an absolute icon, was the ultimate queen (or princess I guess you could say) and trendsetter for biker shorts. Biker shorts are so popular because they are comfy to wear and easy to style. During isolation, you can easily dress these biker shorts down with an oversized t-shirt or hoodie.

2. Tank Bra

Tank bras are the perfect clothing piece for working at home. This bra from Aritzia consists of a scoop-neck with an elastic hem and stretchy material. Many customers say the bra fits smaller so it is recommended to size up for a perfect fit. This tank bra is also flattering on all chests no matter how big or small your bust is. Tank bras are usually fitted and customized for loungewear rather than activewear, so it is the perfect clothing piece for quarantine at home. All in all, I definitely recommend ordering a tank bra.

3. Silk Button Up

Silk button-ups give a whole new look and style to chic and elegant loungewear. This piece is also from Aritzia! This modern button-up has two chest pockets, and the shirt almost has a sueded look to it. Some features of this silk button-up include sleeve tabs for easy cuffing, button placket at the cuffs, and a rounded hem. I would recommend sizing up due to the average replies of many customers saying it fits small. An advantage of sizing up is having an oversized and loose look with this shirt. This silk button-up is definitely on the pricey side with a cost of $148. I definitely believe this is due to the shirt being made of 100% silk.

4. Fluffy Sweatshirt

Fluffy clothes have got to hands down be the coziest clothing item of all time! They can be worn to bed, to lounge in when doing work at home, or even when going out. Wearing fluffy clothes can definitely be compared to wearing a blanket due to its ability to keep you warm and cozy. This fluffy hoodie sweatshirt from Urban Outfitters is cropped, and it is also made out of faux fur. I would definitely recommend a fluffy sweatshirt and even fluffy pants! They're definitely an essential loungewear piece.

5. Sweatpant Shorts

Too hot to wear sweatpants? I present to you the new and upcoming fashion trend: sweatshorts. Sweatpant shorts provide the ultimate comfort you never knew you needed in life. These shorts can be styled with a simple tank or even the tank bras previously mentioned above. In this picture, these simple heather mist grey sweatshorts come at a mid-rise. They're super soft on the inside because they're made from TNA's lightweight fleece. I definitely recommend buying these shorts because they're not only an essential loungewear piece, but you can also wear them out, too.

Beauty Essentials

1. DIY Facemask

Not able to go out and buy skincare products? Don't worry, DIY facemasks are the way to go! One of my favorite facemasks recipes involves only two recipes! First, you need half a cucumber and a tablespoon of yogurt. Make a puree of both ingredients. Next, apply the paste onto your face for about 15 minutes and wash it off afterward with cold water. I especially love this facemask because it's so easy to make, it consists of household ingredients, and it leaves my skin so refreshed.

2. Hair Dye/Glaze

From my observations, dying your hair during quarantine is definitely one of the most popular activities to do at home. However, do you know how long the product lasts in your hair? Is the dye product you're using cruelty-free? I proudly present to you: Manic Panic hair dye. Manic Panic hair dye is vegan free which is quite rare to come across in beauty products. This dye is also semi-permanent which means that it lasts for about 4 to 6 weeks. This is an advantage and benefit to those who want to frequently dye their hair and change their look. Also, if you're looking for something that only stays in your hair for the duration of quarantine, I would definitely recommend this brand! Manic Panic is found in almost all Sally Beauty stores, and you can order it online on the Manic Panic site.

3. Moisturizer

Dewy. Glowing. Hydrating. The Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream is recommended for people with normal to dry skin. It feeds the skin with plumping hydration and contains an antioxidant-packed Japanese purple rice. The purple Japanese rice gives the skin a healthy, glowing look. Other ingredients include fermented antiaging Japanese superfoods like green tea and algae. This product comes in recyclable packaging, and it is cruelty-free and gluten-free! The hype around this product is definitely worth it regardless of the high price which is around $70.

4. Zit Stick

via Glossier

Pimples and zits have got to be the biggest bain of just about everyone's existence! Many people's first solution to getting rid of a pimple is by popping it with their bare hands. Gross! Don't resort to that! By popping a pimple with your bare hands, you are letting the bacteria and germs from your fingertips into that pimple. It'll just get decreasing worse even if you think you permanently got rid of the problem. I present to you a solution to all your problems: a zit stick. This zit stick from Glossier costs about $20, but it is totally worth it! It is a portable pen that clears zits and pimples at high speed. Customers have said that their zits reduced in size after three hours of using this product. I recommend this product for an easy, fast, and safe solution to getting rid of zits and pimples within hours

5. Hand Lotion

via Glossier

The number one rule during this pandemic other than staying 6 feet apart: frequently wash your hands with soap 24/7. What happens when you're always washing your hands though? Your hands will get very dry, and eventually start to crack, but hand lotion is the best solution for this problem! Many places, like Glossier, sell hand lotion, and it is very convenient and beneficial to have during these tough times. I definitely recommend ordering some online!
